Welcome

Here is an outline of Soot’s shop policies as well as answers to many frequently asked questions.  Please keep in mind that Soot is a very new, very small independent business. Everything is done by one woman, and Soot and I are still very much getting our footing. As such these policies are subject to change, and I recommend and therefore I recommend always reading these policies before placing an order. By placing an order with Soot Jewelry, you are agreeing to these policies. 

All jewelry is made by hand in New York from recycled sterling silver and natural gemstones unless otherwise stated in the item description. All chains and findings are also sterling silver unless otherwise stated in the item description. I do my best to use recycled materials wherever possible in my jewelry, packaging, and postage materials. As is the nature of hand made jewelry, each is unique and there may be small differences from piece to piece.

Processing

I put a lot of attention and care into every piece of jewelry I make, and that takes time. While some things may be shipped sooner, many pieces are made to order and may take up to 4 weeks to ship. If you are purchasing something for a special date, I strongly recommend contacting me before purchasing and I will do my best to accommodate you.

Shipping

After the 4 week production time I reserve to get your piece just right, items are shipped via USPS Priority. You will receive a tracking number via email when your order has shipped. Soot Jewelry is not responsible for the loss or theft of orders once they’ve shipped, so I strongly recommend choosing the “Signature confirmation” option at check out.

If you require other shipping options, please contact me and I’ll do my best to accommodate you. 

I currently only ship within the United States. If you are outside the US, please contact me and I will see if taking an international order is possible at that time.

Refunds and exchanges

As these pieces are often made to order and frequently one of a kind, Soot Jewelry does not currently accept returns or issue refunds. Please consider all aspects of your order and ask any relevant questions before purchase. 

It's very important to me that you are satisfied with your new treasures. If you have any issues with your purchase please contact me immediately and I will do my best to find a solution to your issue.

Rings, sizing, and adjustments

Pieces come on the chain and length specified on the individual items description. If you require a different length, please contact me before purchase. Please keep in mind that having a chain lengthened will come with an additional charge. 

Rings are sized to order, please be certain of your ring size before ordering. If you are unsure, stop by any fine jewelry store and ask to have your finger sized. Should the size you ordered be incorrect, I do offer ring sizing. Please reach out for details and pricing. I strongly recommend having your ring resized by me to guarantee patina and finish are consistent with the piece you ordered.

Cleaning and repairs

Clean  your jewelry gently with a soft toothbrush and mild dish soap if necessary, being sure to thoroughly dry it afterward. The finish and patina of your jewelry will naturally change with wear and time, but the original finish will last longer if stored properly in a dry environment, preferably wrapped in a soft cloth like the pouch provided with your jewelry. Keep in mind that some products like lotions, chemicals, fragrances, and household cleaners can affect the finish of jewelry and should be cleaned off immediately. Do not store jewelry in humid areas such as bathrooms.

If you have an accident with your jewelry that requires repair, please contact me. Cost of repair will depend on the damage. I strongly recommend you come to me for repairs to ensure a consistent finish that matches the original.

Customization

Custom projects will be considered on a case by case basis. Feel free to contact me about custom work, but please keep in mind that I am not always capable of fitting in custom pieces and may have to decline.
